Welcome
The Fitzgerald Foundation was inspired by the memory of our much-beloved Fitzgerald (“Scotty”), a horse with a champion spirit and heart of gold. During his 32 years, Scotty showed me how be a patient and kind horsewoman, connect with and care for animals, how to love and cherish others and myself. Even though Scotty is gone, I am lucky enough to experience this every day in my work and recreation, and want others to have the same connections, especially those in our community who might not have these kinds of healing and learning opportunities.
The goal of the Fitzgerald Foundation is to provide equine therapy to all individuals regardless of age, mental, or physical disabilities. The equine therapy would include horse care (grooming, feeding, stall cleaning), ground work (leading, halting, tricks) and riding (steering, halting, walking, possibly trotting). Participating in these activities will provide opportunities for participants to gain knowledge, understanding, and a feeling of responsibility and fulfillment. These tasks and duties will work in conjunction with the connection that comes with caring for another being; a horse. This will also help to provide feelings of connection through equine education, training, personal caring, and kindness.
